Step 1: Upload or connect data

What this step is for

Get your raw data tables into the project so the system can read their columns and rows.

How to do it

  1. Drag files onto the drop zone, or click to browse. Files you upload here are stored securely for the import. They don't appear in the project's Drive — but any files you've already uploaded to Drive do show up here under Available Files.
  2. Watch each file move through its status:
    • Queued → waiting to start
    • Uploading… → transferring to secure storage
    • Validating… → checking the file can be read
    • Complete → ready to use
    • Failed → click Retry or remove and try again
  3. (Optional) Under Available Files, tick any files already in the project's Drive that you want to include. For Excel workbooks in Drive with multiple sheets or extra content around the table, use the region picker — also listed under Available Files — to select the exact sheet/range you want to import.
  4. Click Next when all files are Complete. The system then runs a background Analysing table relationships… job, which usually takes around a minute, before the Relations step opens.

Accepted formats and limits

  • File types: CSV files, or ZIP archives containing CSVs.
  • Max size: 1 TB per file.

Tips

  • Each CSV becomes one source table. Upload one file per logical table (e.g. loans.csv, collateral.csv).
  • If a file fails validation, check the header row exists and the delimiter is a comma.
